The Story of Fremantle
The story of our Port city and our State began on the 2nd May 1829 when Captain Charles Ha we Fremantle, with a group of sailors, landed on a nearby beach. raised the Union Jack and took formal possession of fe area in the name of King George IV
H.MS Challenger with Capt. Fremantle in command, was commissioned to escort the first settlers to what was then known as the Swan River Colony. He wes also to assist the First Governor. Sir James Stirling, with the establishment of the new colony.Fre mantle is the major container port of Western Australia and the lnner Harbour is situated at the mouth aft the Swan River while the bulk cargo berths are situated in the Outer Harbour of Cockburn Sound.
The port is the Western gateway to Australia as the first port of call for ships transversing the West~East route to Australia and direct links into South Egan Asia . Principal imports comprise of containers, general and bulk cargoes while the Maier exports comprise of grain, wool. frozen meat. fish and live sheep.
The city has attractive gardens and beaches and is very proud of its historic buildings. The citizens and Rotarians extend a friendly welcome to all visitors.
