Coronation Mass, K. 317 written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the
age of 23 for the Salzburg Cathedral.

In January 1779 the young Mozart had just returned home to Salzburg,
after 18 months of fruitless job hunting in Paris and Mannheim.

His father Leopold promptly secured Wolfgang a position as court
organist and composer in the Salzburg Cathedral.

The Coronation Mass may have been composed for the
crowning of an image of the Virgin in the Church of Maria-Plain
situated outside the walls of the city.
